Urban Native Retreat

This garden needs a new intro description. I’ve used the all the copy below.

Designed by Carol Armour Aronson, this project not only fulfills its functional objectives but also stands as a living, breathing homage to love and memory, fostering a connection between nature and the human spirit.

The front yard is a showcase of native beauty and functionality, featuring an extensive dry creek bed and swale, which manage water runoff while adding a naturalistic charm. A diverse array of flowering California natives adorns the borders, fulfilling the client’s desire for color and honoring her husband’s passion for native plants.

The backyard reimagines a traditional lawn area into a sustainable and vibrant extension of the client’s entertainment space. Prioritizing drought tolerance and aesthetic appeal, we replaced the high-water grass lawn with Kurapia, a resilient ground cover derived from the California native Phylla nodiflora. To meet local water utility regulations, we installed a subterranean drip irrigation system at one-foot intervals, supplemented by hand watering with a traditional oscillating sprinkler to establish the Kurapia.
