Desert Oasis
This garden design changed a neglected landscape into an inviting, nature-inspired haven. Inheriting a home with no existing garden, our client was blessed with a blank canvas. We created a front yard bursting with heat-tolerant rivers of color, delighting both the homeowner and her neighbors.
Designed by Carol Armour Aronson, the Santa Clarita Oasis exemplifies the harmonious integration of nature and thoughtful design, creating a space that is both aesthetically pleasing and practically functional.
A front yard deck, now screened with fragrant, native Great Basin sagebrush and a striking ‘Desert Museum’ Palo Verde tree provide a private sanctuary where our client can savor her morning coffee.

The backyard, in contrast, offers a cooler, more serene palette, perfect for relaxation. Addressing previous drainage issues caused by the yard’s slope towards the house, we lowered the grade to form a large, flat-bottomed drainage basin. This innovative feature not only prevents flooding but also serves as a Tai Chi practice area during dry months, blending functionality with serene beauty.
